This program is designed to allow mailmerge for e-mail
using a master e-mail and inserting values from a TSV
or CSV file.
Currently, quotes should not be used in this data file.
The program was written to allow updating of information
held on a PowerBase database by e-mail.
http://www.pendle.ukgateway.net
The program is shareware.PowerBase is a powerful database management system for use
with RISC OS computers. Further details can be found at:
An e-mail is prepared in your normal e-mail client and
posted whilst off-line and retrieved from the outgoing
post queue so that it is not sent.
Where data are required to be inserted a special character
(default is ¦ - the key before the '1' with Alt) followed
by a number. The width of this number can be set-up in the
config file, but is set to '99' initially, allowing two
digit numbers to be used in a range of 01 to 99.
The number corresponds to the position of those data within
the TSV or CSV file records you are using.
The datafile is (initially) called 'TSVfile' in the parent
directory of the application, where the template e-mail is
also put with the name 'source'.
When the program is run, a directory called Results will be
created within which the email data will be created for your
chosen mail transport.
Presently, POPstar, Ant and Voyager are supported, and the
transport is selected by editing the config file, where
various other things can also be altered.
When you have examined your resulting e-mails in their
appropriate folder for your transport and are happy that they
are correct, you may double-click on the Obey file called
!Send in the Results directory, when the data should be
transferred to your mail transport client ready to be sent.
If you don't want to send them, you can just delete the whole
Results directory, as it will be recreated next time you run
the program.
There is no formatting of the template e-mail. It's up to
you to make sure that there is room for the insertion of your
data. The program is not intended to be used for generating
seamless personalised spam.
The config file is annotated. I recommend keeping a back-up
as its format is rather critical.
If you have a different mail transport and would like to have
its use to be incorporated please contact me.
